Lost Pubs of Bear Flat/Holloway

Lost Pubs – Opened in the 1850s, the Trafalgar Tavern enjoyed this view from Calton Rd. The 1903 Licensed Premises report described a beerhouse-cum-grocery with a “very nice smoke room behind”. The pub was closed in 1935 and no buildings remain on the site. Lower Holloway’s pubs are now a distant memory, swallowed up in the urban clearances of the 1960’s and replaced by stark terraces. Andrew Swift and Kirsten Elliott’s excellent publications record six more lost pubs in the area – the Royal Sailor, the Old Bridge Tavern, the Angel Inn, the Angel Tavern, the Old Fox and the Half Moon.
