Historical Notes

Melcombe Court is bordered to the south by Linear Park. Linear Park was created in the 1970s on the site of the old Somerset and Dorset Railway line (known to locals as the “Slow and Dirty”).  This part of the S&D railway was opened on 20 July 1874 and connected Bath with Bournemouth.
