Its that time of year again when you might see an estate agent display a chart or two in their advertising, usually showing that they are the No1 at something or other for the year. Both of the main property portals allow agents to gather data on their performance and that of their competitors but its the agents use of the various filters on that data that interests me. As with all stats, you can pretty much make the data say whatever you want depending on which criteria you choose to base your search on.
I thought we’d go in the opposite direction this year and show our results with no filters at all. The three charts below for the BA1 and BA2 postcodes are from Rightmove results (because all agents in Bath are on Rightmove but quite a few aren’t on Zoopla). Barring the deliberate choice of postcodes, the results have not been filtered in any way on price, property type or resale/new build;
