Marketing doublespeak

Last week we think we’ve come across such an amazing example of marketing doublespeak, we thought it was worth sharing – the sheer chutzpah of this is almost worth admiring (although not quite at the same top level of doublespeak as certain online listing agencies advertising themselves as “proper estate agents”).

The first text below is taken from a direct touting letter dropped through our vendors door last week and shared with us. The second text is what we think may be closer to the real answer!

Doublespeak

“Reach more buyers online. We know that online marketing is an important part of getting your property the exposure it deserves, which is why we offer the Market Plus service. Market Plus is free additional marketing for your property, exclusive to XXXXXXX (agent name), that gives you an extra advert on Rightmove, Zoopla and Primelocation. Extra adverts means more views for your property, which means more viewings, more exposure and more offers.”

Translation?

“Instruct us to sell your property and, alongside our normal marketing, a different estate agent we have a deal with will advertise your home at an average 34% discount to over 60s only on a lifetime lease purchase plan. Although this is indeed an extra advert for your home on Rightmove etc, this may confuse some buyers given your property is listed twice on these websites under different agents at two different prices.”

If you’d prefer plain speaking and straightforward advice on selling your home, why not start your research by checking out what recent clients have had to say about their experiences with estate agents – Google reviews or websites like Allagents.co.uk (the industry TripAdvisor equivalent) are a good place to start.
