Our investigations into the title documents have revealed this property was formerly No2 Ebenezer Cottages, built in 1890 for Matilda (also listed as Mary or Maria) Brown. The property was sold in 1926 by Arthur House (bookbinder), the executor of Mrs Brown's estate, to Arthur James Brown (storekeeper) and the address changed in 1927 to the current name (Hillcrest). At the time of construction, there were only a very few properties on this section of Southdown Road, including Matthew Coombes flower nursery and several market gardens.
This property has been occupied by our clients family for more than 45 years.
