One of five roads in Bath ( the others being the now lost Stanley Rd which led from Manvers St to Newark St, Stanley Place & Terrace in West Twerton and Stanley Villas in Camden) named after Sir Henry Morton Stanley, GCB - a Welsh journalist and explorer famous for his exploration of Africa and his search for David Livingstone. Stanley also participated in the American Civil War and, due to a variety of unusual circumstances, was quite possibly the only Englishman in history to serve in the Confederate Army, the Union Army and the Union Navy.
In 1895, the residents in this section of the road included;
29 - Edward Price (carpenter)
30 - George Pow (railway clerk)
31 - John Miles (plasterer)
32 - George Pinner (staycutter)
33 - Frederick Barber (hosier)
