This district of Bath was listed as "Raglands" on many 18th century maps and was primarily farmland and market gardens until the turn of the century. Building in the area grew from Camden Rd and Claremont Road in 1886, into the Fairfield Estate (the property of T.H Delabere May Esq). In this section of Fairfield Road (still called Tyning Lane in the late 1880s and described on the deeds as part of the "Camden Gardens Estate"), Hampton View and the original homes in Midsummer Buildings predated other terraces. Tyning Terrace itself began construction at the turn of the century with 1902 records showing the first seven homes occupied (barring No4). 1911 records show all 28 homes, with the occupier of this property as Thomas Cott (tailor).
