Property Summary

This early Victorian 898sqft home (once a vinekeepers cottage) would make an ideal alternative to a flat, a gracious and conveniently placed AirBnB or an excellent HMO with three bedrooms and three receptions offering a flexible layout crammed full of character. Just on the city side of Mile End with Larkhall shops and Morrisons close by. Fireplaces aplenty, 9ft5 ceiling heights and even a cellar but these retained features have been carefully melded with modern conveniences like double glazing and GCH to create a very comfortable city residence. Ground floor houses three receptions and a galley kitchen off the central hall whilst you'll find three bedrooms (two doubles and a decent single), bathroom and seperate W.C upstairs. No garden to look after but Kensington Meadows green spaces just across the road if needed. Sole Agents

We are told from our client that the original owner of the cottage was a vinekeeper - since the slopes of Camden and Kensington were in the early to mid 1800s indeed used for vineyards, market gardens and nurseries, this certainly adds up with the historical maps of the area at the time. Up to the end of the 1890s, this property stood opposite the Kensington Nursery, with further orchards and fields above the top of Hanover St where Kensington Gardens now sits. From our research, we have been able to identify residents at the cottage at least as far back as 1846 (John Edridge), although by 1852 the occupier was a Miss Gane. During the 1860s, the house was owned by a dressmaker (Elizabeth Gay). In 1876, records show the house occupied by George Schuyler Cardew MD.
